Kroger supplier expands sunflower products recall

Core Tip: The Kroger Co. has expanded a recall of several products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes following supplier SunOpta's expansion of its voluntary recall this week.
The Kroger Co. has expanded a recall of several products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes following supplier SunOpta's expansion of its voluntary recall this week.

Earlier this month, SunOpta indicated its sunflower kernels may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which could result in severe illness to those individuals who may consume these products. No customer illnesses have been reported to date.

Kroger has removed the following items from store shelves and initiated its customer recall notification system that alerts customers who may have purchased recalled Class 1 products through register receipt tape messages and phone calls.

Stores operating under the following names are included in this recall: Kroger, Jay-C, Dillons, Bakers, Gerbes, King Soopers, City Market, Fry's, Ralphs, Food 4 Less, and Smith's. Products can be found in the following states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

Stores operating under the following names are included in this recall: Kroger, Jay-C, Dillons, Bakers, Gerbes, and Food 4 Less (Mid-West only). Products can be found in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Stores operating under the Fry's and Smith's names in Arizona, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming are included in this recall.

Customers who have purchased any of the products described above should not consume them and should return them to a store for a full refund or replacement.

Customers who have questions may contact Kroger at 1-800-KROGERS, Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 12:00 am EDT and Saturday through Sunday 8:00 am to 9:00 pm EDT.
