In a statement, Kenar said the recent cool and damp weather has created the perfect conditions for potato downy mildew disease, so growers need to be cautious in looking for signs of it.
Annually Nigde produces close to 800,000 tonnes of potatoes and Kenar fears that if measures are not taken, the disease could seriously damage output.
Kenar explained that the Chamber of Agriculture engineers need to carry out regular checks on areas planted with beans and potatoes, warn the growers about the disease and take early preventive measures.
''Last year we had downy mildew disease. Our growers noticed too late and suffered losses.’’
