Floods in 22 districts of Dhaka have damaged vegetables crops causing prices to increase significantly, traders report. Most of the vegetables witnessed a Tk 5-Tk 20 per kg hike in the last seven days.

A kilogram of chilli prices increased by Tk 20 during the period.

Brinjal was sold at Tk 40-Tk 60 per kg based on varieties over the week, which was Tk 30-Tk 45 per kg earlier.

Ridge gourd, sponge gourd, pointed gourd, teasel gourd and bitter gourd were sold at Tk 40-Tk 60 per kg during the time.

Meanwhile, different leafy vegetable prices increased to Tk 10-Tk 25 per bunch from Tk 5-Tk 20. 

Potato price rose to Tk 28-Tk 30 (granola) per kg, while deshi (red coloured) variety price rose to Tk 35-Tk 40 per kg-a Tk 2-Tk 5 hike in a week.

Chilli was sold at Tk 60-Tk 80 per kg from Tk 40-Tk 60 per kg a week ago.

President of Uttar Karwan Bazar Babosayee Janokalyan Samity Hafez Khan told the FE that the ongoing flood has seriously disrupted supply.

He said vegetable imports from northern and central regions almost halved amid ongoing floods.
