On August 9 deputy minister of agriculture Robert Makaryan announced that this year Armenia’s agricultural processing companies are ready to procure 71,300 metric tons of fruits and vegetables.
According to Makaryan, companies are willing to buy 48,000 tons of tomatoes, 6,472 tons of apples, 5,334 tons of peaches and 7,640 tons of apricots. He said this year’s demand is 35% (34,000 tons) higher than the total amount of actual purchases in 2015.
"Despite early spring frosts and hail, the year for agriculture is quite good, however, final conclusions are still premature,' said Makaryan. According to him, wholesale buyers of tomato pay 33-35 drams per one kg.
The deputy minister said also Armenia plans to export up to 120,000 metric tons of fruits and vegetables.
Makaryan said 85% of total exports of fruits and vegetables have gone to Russia (73,300 tons), 7,400 tons to Georgia, 4,500 tons to Belarus, 267 tons to Iraq and 60 tons to UAE.
