As the summer went away, the weather became cooler. And the distribution and selling of yellow-head catfish also became active. However, the stock in main production regions like Guangdong, Guangxi, Sichuan, Zhejiang, Hubei etc. was in small amount. The price was high likely to go up as Mid-Autumn Festival and Chinese National Day was on the way.
In August, other regions outside Guangdong still got stock and there were not so many peddlers going to Guangdong to purchase the fish. But farmers in Kaichun and Foshan were pessimistic about farming and the stocking quantity was low. The batch of fish was expected to go to market later this year, which might be causes that kept price strong.
There was little shortage of yellow catfish in Huzhou, Zhejiang province. Consumption was low in Huzhou but high in surrounding cities like Shanghai, Suzhou, Nanjing and so on. Once shortage problem emerged in Huzhou, local peddlers would go to surrounding cities to procure the fish. It’s known that the distribution dropped a lot during the G20 Summit, which would back to normal gradually after 7th July.
The situation was worse in Hubei province where the heavy rains in summer caused a lot of damages. Some yellow catfish ponds were destroyed. As a result, the fish stock went low.
Comprehensively, big-size yellow catfish was in large shortage. As temperature went low and water quality became better, farmer were reluctant to sell the fish in large amount, waiting for the price going up. It’s high likely the price would go up in September while the question was only when and how much.
