Lakes Farm Raised Catfish of Mississippi is recalling 1,695 pounds of siluriformes fish (catfish) because they may be adulterated with banned products. The products are Malachite Green and Leucomalachite Green. Malachite Green is triphenylmethane dye used in aquaculture as an anti-fungal agent. Leucomalachite Green is a reduction of Malachite Green. The problem was discovered after routine FSIS sampling revealed “violative levels” of those chemicals in the product. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions received to date.
The recalled products were produced on March 14 through March 17, 2017. They include 15 pound cardboard boxes of frozen raw “catfish” fillets identified as LAKE’S FARM RAISED CATFISH and having lot codes T-14, T-15, T-16, and T-17; 15 pound cardboard boxes of frozen raw “catfish” nuggets identified as LAKE’S FARM RAISED CATFISH and having lot codes T-14, T-15, T-16, and T-17; 15 pound cardboard boxes of frozen raw “catfish” steaks identified as LAKE’S FARM RAISED CATFISH and having lot codes T-14, T-15, T-16, and T-17; and 15 pound cardboard boxes of frozen raw whole “catfish” identified as LAKE’S FARM RAISED CATFISH and having lot codes T-14, T-15, T-16, and T-17.
These products have the establishment number “EST. 48150” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to institutional and retail locations in Mississippi and Tennessee.
If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them. Throw them away in sealed containers in a secure garbage can or take them back to the place of purchase for a full refund.
