Many Ecuadorian producers of mango are enjoying the good yields that were forecast and anticipate that an early mango harvest will give them a strategic advantage in new markets. Libya Piñeres, who works at Rinursa, a company that produces and exports mangoes, spoke about the current situation: "We estimate we'll have a slight increase in mango production this year, as the harvest began this week (37), one month ahead of schedule, compared to last year. Normally, our harvest takes place in the period when Brazil and Peru export their fruit. Now we'll be able to enter the market at a better time."

In addition, Ecuador is beginning to promote the introduction of Ecuadorian mangoes to the Asian market. This year, for example, several Ecuadorian producers of mango participated in the Asia Fruit Logistica fair. “This was the first time Ecuadorian mangoes were promoted in China. The idea is to diversify markets to achieve better returns, without forgetting that we want people to regard Ecuador's mango as a high quality product. Now, we are in the process of establishing a reputation as a producing country in this new market," said Piñeres.

“This was our time at the fair and we did quite well. The Ecuadorian mango was very well received by visitors. We, as a company, will be sending a few pallets of mango by air to Asia in December but this is just the beginning. At the national level we are constantly implementing new management techniques and adequate fruit quality controls. We are becoming more competitive in the market. We can say that our mangoes have all the qualities to enter the Asian market very strongly," the representative concluded.
