Bullfrog price struggled to rise to more than 10 yuan/500g this summer, up to as high as 20 yuan/500g when the worst shortage problem happened. In just half a year, bullfrog price went up and down, same as farmers’ moods even if they earned benefits. Some farmers still held a wait-and-see attitude towards the market when the price was pretty high. Unexpectedly, price dropped much more faster than it grew.
In the bullfrog wholesale market at Shanghai Tongchuan Road, the market stock was low but there were still farmers who still had bullfrogs in hands. That’s because they didn’t sell the bullfrog when the price was extremely high in summer and now they were more reluctant to sell as the price went down. The largest supply at present came from Zhaoan, Zhangzhou, Fujian province and Jieyang, Guangdong province.
Sales all went down at different degrees. According to wholesales, business went bad recently because of the low price. Different aquatic products all rushed to market during Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day. The quantity was extremely large so that oversupply and price going low problems almost came up to all kinds of fishes.
The bullfrog sizes were mainly between 200-450g in Zhaoan and Jieyang, Guangdong province. As for the procurement price, prices were clear in Fujian and Guangdong. It’s a little higher than 3 yuan/500g for feed factories while more than 2 yuan/500g by cash for market wholesalers. Owing to the huge market stock, both the market wholesalers and feed factories didn’t worry the market supply. Therefore, some farmers who needed cash urgently were willing to sell the bullfrogs even though the price was cheap.
It’s difficult to predict following prices as farmers’ confidence was shaken and selling willingness was struck. But present price was not the record low in recent years, which was still higher than that in two years ago.
