According to a notice posted on the Kern County, California website, cucumbers that have been recalled for Salmonella have been served at schools in the area. Hospitals in that county and two restaurants may also have received the cucumbers.
According to Notice, Prime Time Produce did not alert local health officials about the recall. That facility told its local distributor, which told officials about the recall.
Prime Time Produce has issued a voluntary product recall for some lots of the cucumbers that were delivered to many different facilities in Bakersfield. The cucumbers may have been served in salad bars at these schools between October 19 and October 28, 2016:

Salmonella infections can be serious, especially in young children and people with health problems and compromised immune systems. The symptoms of a Salmonella infection include vomiting, nausea, diarrhea that may be bloody, fever, and abdominal cramps. Those symptoms usually begin six to seventy-two hours after exposure to the bacteria.
The illness usually lasts four to seven days. Most people recover without medical treatment, but some, especially those in high risk groups, can suffer serious complications from this illness. The long term complications of this type of infection can be serious, including reactive arthritis, high blood pressure, and irritable bowel syndrome.
