As part of the work focused on boosting exports of agricultural products from Oaxacan to the United States and other countries, the Ministries of Economy and Development of Agriculture, Fisheries and Aquaculture (Sedapa), in coordination with English Cucumber Production Companies and Terrabella Greenhouse Mexico, SA, signed a contract to export English cucumbers to the neighboring country.

This agreement will allow them to continue producing the cucumbers in greenhouses and to make daily shipment of 40,320 cucumbers.

As a result, the area will export 12 million cucumbers to the US per year, which amounts to more than 4,500 tons that have an estimated export value of nearly 130 million pesos; an income that will benefit 388 producers of English cucumbers and tomatoes from the Central and Sierra Norte Valleys that are integrated into 21 formal organizations.

The agreement involves an incentive to produce English cucumbers in the Central and Sierra Norte Valleys, and improve the income of vegetable farmers in Oaxaca. It will allow a rational use of water in the Central Valleys through drip irrigation in greenhouses. The sector needs an annual cultivation and production program for tomatoes, English cucumber, eggplant, and bell pepper to curb oversupply and low selling prices.

The signing of the export contract was attended by the legal representative of the Agro Bin Gansack SA company, Mario Gonzalez Robles; the legal representative of Terrabella Greenhouse Mexico, Javier Gonzalez Gonzalez; and the head of Sedapa, Eduardo Rojas Zavaleta.
