Recently, a farmer in a small village near Dingqiao in Haining, planted a new variety of melon. The variety, the net-patterned melon, was brought from Japan by the owner of the land, Ling Hui. When you look at it, this net melon looks strikingly similar to a miniature Hami melon.
Ling Hui became the owner of the land only in May this year. In June he brought the new melon variety from Japan and planted it on only about 0.3 hectares of land, because the management requirements for the cultivation are very high. The taste of the melon is exquisite. As a result, the melons are sold individually for a price of 100 RMB in Japan. Since it is the first year he has cultivated the melons, he plans to introduce them to the fruit market, in a set of four, at a price of 50 RMB.
Ling Hui also adds that "because of the rainy weather, the production volume isn't as high as expected. No one is really familiar with the melons, as few have come in touch with them. Currently we have a production volume of about 5000 kg and we're selling about 2500 kg to 3000 kg at this stage.
