A sharp increase in cucumber prices has been recorded in the wholesale markets of the Crimea. According to the daily monitoring of "APK-Inform: Vegetables and Fruits", the wholesale price of these products in the peninsula has grown by 25-30% since the beginning of this week.
In particular, at the Simferopol wholesale market "Crimean Privoz" cucumbers are sold for between 100 and 155 rouble/kg (1.64-2.55 $/kg) depending on the quality, variety and volume. For comparison, at the end of the previous working week, the wholesale price of these products stood at a minimum of 80 rouble/kg (1.32 $/kg).
According to market operators, the upward price trend affecting cucumbers is the result of a marked increase in the demand for these products on the eve of the New Year holidays. At the same time, the supply of local cucumbers is quite limited. Most of the products are currently supplied by Russian enterprises, which are also actively raising their selling prices.
Also worth noting is that, at the moment, the wholesale price of cucumbers in the market of Simferopol is approximately 27% higher than in mid-December 2015. At the same time, traders are confident that the product will become even more expensive.
