Expresco Foods of Quebec is recalling 20,446 ponds of imported chicken skewer products for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this issue.
These fully cooked chicken skewers were packaged on August 9 and 15, 2017. They include 1.31-pound packages of “WEST END CUISINE GRILLED MEDITERRANEAN STYLE CHICKEN SKEWERS HAND-MADE WITH CHICKEN BREAST” with UPC number 621588314947 and lot codes: 172562, 172640, 172571 and 172704, and 1.09-pound packages of “EXPRESCO GRILLED Garlic & Herb CHICKEN SKEWERS” withUPC number 621588315555 and lot codes: 172563, 172668, 172669 and 172670. The products have the establishment number “36” inside the Canadian Food Inspection Agency mark of inspection. They were shipped to retail locations in Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan and Texas.
If you purchased these products, do not eat them. Discard in a sealed package or take them back to the place of purchase for a refund. Wash your hands well after handling these products.. Clean out your refrigerator or freezer or wherever the items were stored with a mild bleach solution to kill any bacteria.
If you ate these products, even if you reheated them, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, severe headache, stiff neck, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps. Pregnant women need to be especially watchful, since listeriosis can cause miscarriage and stillbirth, even if the woman only have a mild flu-like illness. If you do feel sick, see your doctor.
