According to Adex, Peruvian exports in 2016 amounted to US $249 million.

From Lambayeque to the world
According to the National Association of Exporters (Adex), Lambayeque, which produced 53,861 tons of capsicum, became the most productive region at the national level, after Lima, Pasco, La Libertad, and Tacna.

Adex's agroexport manager, Paula Carrion Tello, said that the Lambayeque also surpassed the cities of Piura and Arequipa. "Lambayeque produces 32.8% of the country's capsicum, so it is important to promote its growth in order to benefit the actors in the chain," she said.

She also stated that in 2016 this northern region's production amounted to 72.060 tons. The main products exported to countries like United States, United Kingdom and the Netherlands were the piquillo, bell, paprika, and jalapeño peppers.

"In the north, the paprika is developing in a positive way regarding its volume level, but its value has fallen because of the Chinese competition. The most exported products in Lambayeque are the bell, jalapeno, paprika, and sweet pepper," he said.

She also spoke about the importance of the VIII International Capsicum Convention (organized by Adex), which will provide details on safety, market trends, consumer preferences, among other aspects.
