Pakistani mangoes are in high demand all over the world, but China takes that demand to a whole new level.
Mr Lijian Zhao Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) Chinese Embassy in Pakistan tweeted, “Pakistan mangoes have arrived at dining table of Chinese. 10,000 tons mangoes are expected to be in China this year. They are warmly welcomed by the Chinese. Mangoes were also gifted by Pakistani delegations to Chinese hosts during their visits in history.”
The Pakistani mangoes are called the king of fruits locally, they grow in abundance in Punjab and Sindh. Pakistan is ranked fifth when it comes to producers of mangoes, out of over a hundred countries, producing 1.8 million tons per year. The most loved Mango varieties are Chaunsa and Sindhri.
The Chinese interest in Pakistani mangoes is a natural result of a mango festival back in 2017. The festival was organized in collaboration with the embassy of Pakistan and Pakistan Horticulture Development and Export Company, Ministry of Commerce in China. The aim of the event was to introduce famous Pakistani mangoes in the Chinese community. It was such a success, that it is now expected China will import 10000 tons of mangoes from Pakistan in 2018, as the popularity of the ' king of fruit' has risen significantly since the event.
Recently the caretaker Punjab Minister for Agriculture Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan inaugurated the three-day mango festival at the Centaurus Mall in Islamabad. It means the mangoes are in favour with not just Pakistanis, but by people all over the globe.
