The UK export market for seed potatoes has an annual sales value of 90 million GBP [116.18 million USD]. Some varieties sell for as much as 900 GBP [1,168 USD] per ton.
China is the largest consumer of potatoes in the world. The demand for potato-based products grows every day and the once inconspicuous potato is now the fourth largest staple food after rice, corn, and wheat. The consumer demand is growing rapidly.
