Core Tip: A $71 million expansion of Costa Adelaide Mushrooms at Monarto is on track.
A $71 million expansion of Costa Adelaide Mushrooms at Monarto is on track. Production is expected to start in January. The expansion, announced in 2017, will double the mushroom farm's capacity to 240 tons per week, creating 200 jobs.

It is to reach full production in the third quarter of next year, according to Costa's annual report, published last month. Concrete and plumbing has been laid, steel frames erected and a dam is being dug. A 2,000-kilowatt solar farm comprised of more than 5,000 panels is also being built on-site to power the expansion.

According to murrayvalleystandard.com.au, the value of mushrooms is growing by 6.3 percent per year. Costa also grows berries, tomatoes, citrus fruit, bananas, avocados and grapes, and has farms in every state of Australia.
