The autumn harvest of Hami melons from Tuyugou Village in Shanshan County, Turfan City, gradually entered the market in mid-September. After an abundant summer harvest, the autumn harvest also yielded around 3000 kg per 0.07 hectare. Turfan Hami melons are sold in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Shanghai.
The overall surface area devoted to Hami melon plantations in Tuyugou Village reached 2,172 hectares and accounts for 45% of the Hami production volume of Shanshan County. Hami melon varieties include the Xizhou Honey strain, the Golden Honey strain, and the Jade Abundance Honey strain.
The Hami melons from Shanshan County are the earliest melons from Xinjiang to enter the market, but also the last to leave. The summer harvest is planted in March and the earliest Hami melons enter the market in late May. The peak sales period is in mid-June and lasts until late June.
Farmers are planting a second round of Hami melons to increase profits. The autumn harvest is planted in June and July, and arrives on the market in mid-September.
