We recently reported that Egyptian tomato exports had been shut down due to virus problems. This is not the case and turned out to be a translation error.

What is going on? Due to the continuing problems with TYLCV, the tomato leaf curl virus, the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture is investigating a ban on the import of a certain hybrid tomato variety, which has been found to be infected with TYLCV. The ban is not yet in place, as it is still under investigation.

The variety that is susceptible to the virus is described as 023. Fingers are now being pointed at the company that imported this breed for being the source of the virus.
