According to Sri Lanka's Minister of Agriculture, Mahinda Amaraweera, a proposal has been made not to allow fruit imports in the future without first consulting the Ministry of Agriculture. Allegedly, there is already cabinet approval for the proposal.

It is planned to cultivate mangoes on some 40 hectares in the new TJC Mango zone in Hungama; 200 farmers are involved in the project. The Minister distributed 7000 TJC mango saplings to the farmers.

The Hungama Mango Cultivation zone was established under the accelerated agriculture development program 'We Grow - We Eat', implemented under the guidance of the Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera, intent on establishing specific crop zones.

According to colombopage.com, the Agriculture Ministry points out that farmers will not have any difficulty selling their harvest, as many purchase agreements have already been made with private businesses.
