Young children and infants can be affected by exposure to lead, but there may not be any obvious signs of lead poisoning. A child with lead poisoning may not look or act sick.
There is a “high level of lead” in the recalled curry powder, according to the recall notice. The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development found the lead in the product. This is an imported product. The FDA and the importer are contacting the source of the curry powder for corrective action.
The recalled product is Baraka Hot Curry Powder sold in a 7 ounce plastic jar The UPC number on that product is 822514265566. Also recalled is Baraka Curry Powder, also sold in a 7 ounce plastic jar, with UPC number 822514265535.
Less than 20 cases of this product were shipped between June 15 and July 31, 2018 to stores in Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Missouri, and Colorado. The FDA is asking that all products with those UPC numbers be removed from store shelves immediately and placed aside for pickup.
All consumers should stop using this product immediately. Return the unused portions to the place of purchase. Don’t throw this product away.
