Specialists of the plant quarantine supervision department at the state border of the Russian Federation discovered a quarantine object (Mulberry scale) in seven batches of fresh fruit from China between November 4 and 10. This was reported on November 13 on the official website of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance in the Trans-Baikal Territory.

The presence of the mulberry scale was confirmed by the results of entomological examinations carried out by experts of an accredited laboratory. The volume of the infected fresh fruit amounted to more than 130 tons.

After completing the phytosanitary control, official decided that the fruit would be allowed to be imported into the territory of the Russian Federation, as the mulberry scale does not pose a threat to humans. Despite this, experts recommend thoroughly washing the fruit before consumption.
