The wholesale price of peppers in the Xinfadi Market is currently between 1 and 2.4 yuan [0.14-0.35 USD] per 0.5 kg, which is a price decrease of 24.44% in comparison with last week. The main supply of peppers in Beijing in October and November came from production areas in Weifang, Shandong, which suffered from flood water in late August. There was therefore a pepper supply shortage. However, as temperatures dropped, farmers in Old Chifeng, Inner Mongolia, and Tangshan, Hebei, decided to harvest their peppers early and avoid frost damage. The supply volume consequently increased and the price recently dropped as a result.
Peppers from Guangdong and Hainan already enter the market in small volumes. Furthermore, the surface area devoted to pepper plantation in Fujian and Yunnan increased this year. The previous supply shortage is already a thing of the past.
