A new, mushroom-based meat alternative has been introduced by To-Jo Mushrooms, a family-owned mushroom farm operating out of Pennsylvania since 1932. The new ‘Pulled Port’ product line was launched at the PMA Fresh Summit in October and has already attracted strong interest.

To-Jo’s Pulled Port was created as a response to the increasing demand for vegetarian and vegan dining options both in the foodservice and retail sectors. The result of the innovative production process is a wholesome and flavourful pulled mushroom product that looks and cooks just like meat. Pulled Port is currently available in four varieties, including Original, BBQ, Carnitas and Philly.

Vegconomist.com quoted Tony D’Amico, president of To-Jo Mushrooms as saying: “At To-Jo, we love offering our customers products that have versatility. Pulled Port allows chefs to enhance how they already use mushrooms by giving classic dishes a more unique twist. With the rising demand for vegetarian and plant-based options, we are excited that this product gives us the opportunity to engage with chefs in this emerging category.”
