Chile's agriculture minister, Antonio Walker, recently said that Chile had signed an agreement with the General Administration of Customs to export honey by-products to the Chinese market.
Chile's website Biobio reported on Dec. 22 that after the signing of the agreement, the door to the Chinese market was opened and Chile could export a variety of products originating from honeycombs to China, with an estimated maximum of 22 products.
Walker paid special attention to Santa Brbara, located in R. del Bo Bo, one of Chile's major honey-producing cities. Jorge Ulloa, the regional governor of R. del Bío Bío, announced that a conference on apiculture would be held by January next year under the call of Francisco Lagos, the Regional Agricultural Secretary,.
Official Chilean data show that 80% of the honey produced in Chile last year was exported to foreign markets, mainly in European Union countries, especially Germany. Chile ranks 20th in the world in honey export, with competitors including China, the United States and Argentina.
