The Spanish-French-Italian-Portuguese garlic contact group is holding a meeting on Wednesday, January 16, in Las Pedroñeras, Cuenca, to analyze the situation of the sowing, prices and markets in the different countries that make up the group, as well as the current situation in the global market.
The meeting will also serve to analyze the improvements in the information exchange system between the countries that make up the group, as well as the prospects for the garlic sector ahead of Brexit. The Area Chief of the General Subdirectorate for International Trade of the Ministry of Commerce, María Teresa Ramírez Martín, will explain the current situation of the UK's exit from the EU and the implications it may have for the sector, and will do so the day after the British Parliament has voted on the Agreement reached last November by the European Commission and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
The Spanish delegation in the garlic contact group will be formed mainly by the heads of the National Association of Garlic Producers and Marketers, ANCA, an association integrated in FEPEX, as well as those of the National Board. The counsellor of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Embassy of Spain in Paris, María José Hernández, will represent the administration. The French delegation will be formed by the managers of ANIAIL and by the head of the French Embassy in Spain, Jerôme Frouté. The Italian delegation will be formed by representatives of UNAPROA and a head of the administration.
