Recently, the “Special Plan for the Wholesale Market Distribution of Guangzhou “Vegetable Basket” Products (2017-2020) was jointly announced by the Municipal Commission of State Regulations and the Municipal Commercial Committee. By the end of 2020, there will be 16 closed or relocated wholesale markets in Guangzhou that do not meet the planning regulations or have a greater impact on urban transportation.

Baiyun district has four “vegetable basket” wholesale markets that will be relocated or closed, which includes the Jiangnan fruit and vegetable wholesale market that everyone is very familiar with.

At present, the Jiangnan market is the largest fruit and vegetable wholesale market in Guangzhou, and it is also one of the fruit and vegetable distribution centers with the highest trade volume in China and even in Southeast Asia. It plays a pivotal role in South China and has produced extraordinary impacts throughout the country.

In recent years, 80% of the total of domestically imported fruit has been transported throughout the country via this wholesale market. The vegetable baskets involved include wholesale markets for agricultural products such as vegetables, meat, eggs, aquatic products and fruits. The planning period is from 2017 to 2020.
