The red blood oranges from Zigui county in Hubei, China, are also known as Zigui blood oranges for the scarlet color of their fruit flesh. This orange variety is juicy and the production volume is small, but the Zigui blood orange has been popular with consumers for many years. The perfect environment, particular soil quality, unique weather conditions, and especially abundant sunshine, all work together to create the extraordinary flavor of Zigui blood oranges.

"Our main product variety is the Chinese blood orange. This year the harvest season began in January and came to an end in February. Retail conditions are smooth as market demand remains strong." This is according to Mr. Zhou Jinsan of Hubei Yichang Tianhou Ecological Agriculture Science and Technology Co., Ltd.

"We enjoy smooth sales mainly because the product quality of our blood oranges is excellent, particularly in comparison with last year. The blood oranges taste better this season. The sugar content is between 15-17. In addition, many orange production areas in China suffered from low temperatures, rainfall, and snowfall around Chinese Spring Festival [February 5th, 2019]. Our production area in Zigui, Hubei, however, remained untouched. This helped us extend our retail season."

"We currently sell our blood oranges under our own registered brand, Nongtaizi, through online traders and high-end wholesale dealers. Even though the product variety in the orange and tangerine market has greatly expanded in the last few years, the price of blood oranges is more or less the same. Of course, this is also because the overall production volume of blood oranges in China is relatively small."
