The price of fruit in the market of Zaozhuang City, Shandong, shows a significant downward trend. The price of strawberries, for example, fell by more than 60%. One trader explained that the current price is around 10 yuan [1.49 USD] per 0.5 kg, which is the lowest it has been in years.
The temperature in January was relatively low and the strawberry production volume was therefore limited while demand during the Chinese Spring Festival [February 5th, 2019] increased. The price of strawberries was therefore high and showed no sign of coming down. However, the weather has warmed up, which is favorable for the growth of strawberries. Their production volume greatly increased, and as the strawberries flooded the market, supply exceeded demand. This is the main reason for the significant price drop in recent days.
