The consumption of fresh fruits in Ukraine is increasing year by year. Earlier, the Ukrainian Fruit and Vegetable Association (UPOA) reported that Ukraine has updated the record for banana imports, which in the 7 months of this year amounted to 166.9 thousand tons in quantitative terms and $ 94.7 million in value terms. Such figures exceeded last year's by 16% and 10% respectively.
However, bananas are by far not the only "exotic" fruit to be purchased in 2019. Moreover, the percentage of imports of such products as pineapple, avocado, as well as guava, mango and mangosteen increased more than twice in the year. UPOA experts have explained why such a significant increase in consumption of exotic fruits is related.
“The increase in consumption of exotic fruits is primarily explained by the trend of healthy lifestyles, the number of supporters of which is increasing every year. Also, the solvency of the Ukrainian population has increased due to the growth of population income in 2018-2019. And the last significant factor influencing the increase in fruit imports is the stabilization of the national currency, which significantly reduces the sharp price jumps," said the director of development of UPOA, Kateryna Zvereva.
