According to the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia, the nation exported 5,045 tons of apples from the start of August to 23 November 2020, which is a 12-fold increase from one year ago.
According to the ministry, 96.8% of all export deliveries (4,884 tons) were made to Russia. Export markets for Georgian apples also include Kazakhstan, Armenia, Singapore, and Hong Kong (China). The volume of apple exports in monetary terms amounted to $2.2 million, which is a 7-fold increase compared to the same period last year.
Intensive harvesting of apples in the republic began in the first ten days of September and the harvest of early varieties occurred about a month earlier.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, this year the country is expected to have a record harvest of apples at the level of 120,000 tons. In comparison, the 2017 apple harvest amounted to 20,000 tons, 83,000 tons in 2018, and 44,000 tons in 2019. The Shida Kartli region is the main supplier of Georgian apples to the market.
