Karnataka mango growers are hoping to step up exports this year, now that Covid-19 infections seem to be tapering off and conducive weather might lead to a better yield. In 2021, mango exports dropped to a mere 250 tons, down from the normal 50,000 tons, as the devastating second wave of Covid-19 caused countries to lock down and ban fruit imports.
K.V. Nagaraj, chairman of Karnataka State Mango Development and Marketing Corporation Ltd, said the state is having a good flowering season and the fruit yield is expected to be around 1.5 mln tons, up from 900,000 tons last year.
