Core Tip: Swedish confectionery firm Cloetta plans to close its plant in Gävle, Sweden, in early 2014, as a part of its restructuring plan to generate cost savings.
The production at the Gävle factory will be shifted to other factories in Ljungsbro, Sweden and Levice, Slovakia. The company plans to initiate discussions with the local unions in order to support the employees before the closure of the factory.

In May, the company announced its plans to close the factories in Aura, Finland and Alingsås, Sweden and streamline the warehouse network. According to the company, the overall restructuring plan is expected to generate annual savings of approximately SEK100m ($14.28m) on EBITDA-level.

The company noted that the restructuring is driven by an overcapacity in its production structure.

Cloetta, founded in 1862, is a leading confectionary company in the Nordic region, the Netherlands, and Italy. It has 12 production units in six countries.
