Core Tip: Tyson K-12 has released several new chicken products for school lunch menus.
The Southern Breaded Chicken has more servings per case, but at a lower price point per serving, according to the company. Each fully-cooked piece is packed in a separate, easily identifiable bag for convenience. The Oven Roasted Chicken also features new waste-reducing packaging that simplifies serving.

“We have created an exciting, nutritious line of restaurant foods that sacrifices none of the flavors kids love most.” said Michael Turley, vice president and general manager of the government business unit. “No provider is pushing the boundaries of delicious, healthy food for kids like Tyson K-12.”

The company also introduced five new handheld products: Whole Grain Tempura Nuggets, Hot & Spicy Grilled Breast Fillet, Homestyle Breaded Boneless Wings, Golden Crispy Pattie and Lighter. Better. Nugget. The handheld chicken products are catered to consumers 18 years old and younger because the majority of restaurant handheld chicken sales are to consumers in that age group, according to Turley.

Tyson launched the new products in July at the Second Annual Tyson Innovation Premier in Denver, Colo. during the School Nutrition Association’s Annual National Conference. The company released nine total products, all of which comply with new nutritional regulations, the company said.
