Core Tip: The global market for soft drinks is now worth $469 billion, with consumers spending more than ever on bottled refreshment, according to research released by market research company RTS Research in July 2012.
A trend towards consumers preferring bottled water and energy drinks over soft drinks is seeing a gradual decline in the popularity of carbonated drinks.

Along an awareness of health and wellbeing fuelling the growth of energy drinks, consumer trends also show that mood, energy and new flavour experiences are driving forces behind customer choices.

Despite the growth in energy drinks, the global consumption of carbonated soft drinks reached 190 billion litres in 2011.

Juices, juice drinks and nectars remained strong performers with 27 billion litres consumed. Globally, 134 billion litres of bottled water was consumed.

Overall, the global consumption of bottled drinks increased by 2.8% between 2006 to 2011. With 423 billion litres being consumed world-wide in 2011.
