Meat firm Kettyle Irish Foods has won a £1.2M contract to export bacon to Albert Heijn, a leading European food retailer based in the Netherlands.

In addition to bacon, the County Fermanagh-based firm produces dry aged beef, lamb, free range chicken and rose veal.

The firm won the export deal after winning support from the Northern Ireland investment group Invest NI.

Sustainability

Northern Ireland enterprise minister Arlene Foster said: “Kettyle Irish Foods, an award-winning company which has pioneered dry-aged beef and bacon, has been quick to recognise a developing market trend in the Netherlands for foods which combine taste and sustainability.”

“Other leading retailers in Europe are also starting to insist that suppliers show solid evidence of a commitment to sustainability,” said Foster.

“It's a trend which could have a profound impact on the food businesses here and indeed throughout Europe.”
