Empee Distilleries, a business arm of India-based Empee Group, has lined up many projects to expand business in 2012-13.
In 2011-2012, the company had generated total revenue of INR5.94bn ($108m) with net profit of INR0.21bn ($3.83m). Empee Distilleries plans to increase these numbers through newly initiated projects.
Some of the projects include launching a new brand of liquor - El Canso Brandy - in the Tamil Nadu state of India, making Empee Sugars and Chemicals a subsidiary of Empee Distilleries and the recent opening of a brewery unit near Chennai, India.
Empee Distilleries chairman MP Purushothaman told thehindubusinessline.com that the company has also started a 60-kiloliter-a-day grain-based distillery project in Andhra Pradesh, which is set to reach its full production in March 2013.
Empee Distilleries joint managing director Nisha Purushothaman was quoted by the website as saying that with Indian Made Foreign Liquor stagnating, the company had witnessed a tough year with increasing product and input costs.
"Nearly 90 per cent of its market is in Tamil Nadu where premium brands of liquor have taken a beating. But the trend is likely to change in the coming year," she told the website.
