Starbucks has started offering Square Mobile Card Readers at 7,000 company-operated stores in the US from 3 January as part of plans to drive small business growth.
The Square Mobile Card Readers are equipped with a free mobile application Square Register. They can be inserted into the headphone jack of an iPhone, iPad or Andriod devices.
Square Register works as a full point-of-sale system for businesses to accept payments, track inventory, and also shares menu and location information from anywhere.
The US-based coffee retail chain is offering the card readers for $10.
The Square Mobile Card Readers are not required to make purchases at Starbucks locations, as the company accepts payments using Square Wallet, which is available for Android or iOS devices.
