Lacassine-based Louisiana Spirits has released the brand name - Bayou Rum - for its upcoming rum that is expected to hit shelves by early June 2013.
Located along I-10 South Frontage Road at exit 48, the new distillery, which is nearing completion, has also named Republic National Distributing as Bayou Rum's sole distribution partner in Louisiana.
The craft distillery is currently building two expressions of Bayou Rum - Silver Bayou Rum and Spiced Bayou Rum - that are made from local Louisiana sugar cane.
Silver Bayou Rum is handcrafted in a traditional pot still using 100%, natural Louisiana cane sugar and molasses, while Spiced Bayou Rum is handcrafted in a traditional pot still and blended with natural, Louisiana ingredients to make it spicy.
Louisiana Spirits head distiller Jeff Murphy said they are happy to create good tasting rums made from local ingredients.
"We've found the fresh raw materials to be a big differentiator in terms of taste. Louisiana molasses and the raw unrefined Louisiana sugar crystals we use, along with our historic 'sugar house' recipe, have helped us to create more flavorful rums for sipping that'll mix exceptionally well for cocktails too. We can't wait for rum drinkers to experience Bayou Rum," he added.
