Louisiana Spirits is constructing a new distillery at Lacassine, Louisiana that is set to open by April or May 2013.
The 18,000ft² facility will include a full distillery, visitor center, barrel storage area, bottling line, offices, a gift shop and a gallery. The distillery plans to initially produce test batches and recipes of an un-aged silver rum and a spiced rum.
Louisiana Spirits president Trey Litel told nola.com that they plan to start distilling in February 2013.
"Our rum style is influenced by classic rums of the Caribbean. We really like Dominican rums," he told the website.
"We're using the ingredients that we can get year-round from Louisiana."
Louisiana Spirits also plans to release the brand name for its rums by mid January 2013 along with the distributor details.
