BBig Bazaarig Bazaar hosted the Fresh Fruit Festival at its store in Kandivali, Mumbai. Fruits like apples, pears and grapes from the United States were showcased at the festival, which will continue for a month. Naini Setalvad, nutritionist and lifestyle disease management consultant, conducted an interactive cooking demonstration at the venue, making apple and pineapple smoothies, pear salad and grape raita.

The California Table Grape Commission, Pear Bureau North West and the Washington Apple Commission will showcase Grape Red Globe (priced at Rs 380 per kg), green pears (Rs 170 per kg) and Apple Washington (red, priced at Rs 190 per kg) and Apple Granny Smith (green, priced at Rs 270 per kg) at 75 Big Bazaar outlets in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru and Pune. The fruits remain fresh for 15 days.

Inaugurating the festival, Peter Haas, US consul-general in Mumbai, said, “I'm thrilled to be here at the US Fresh Fruit Festival. This is a wonderful opportunity for Indian families to taste and experience a wide range of fresh fruit from the US. The reason behind organising the fruit festival is to introduce American fruit. India is a important and growing market, and we are glad to have a partnership with Big Bazaar, which makes US fruit available across India around the year.”

“We are delighted to associate with US fresh fruit and conduct the festival at our Big Bazaar stores. Fruits like California grapes, North-west pears and Washington apples are now a part of the regular basket of fruit that Big Bazaar offers and are available across their season in most of our outlets,” said Radhakrishnan, president, Future Freshfoods Ltd.
