Bolthouse Farms, a US-based producer of juices, smoothies, protein shakes and cafe beverages, has opened a $5m Innovation Center at the company's headquarters in Bakersfield, California on 16 January 2013.

The Innovation Center is expected to accelerate new product development and enhance the company's portfolio of beverages, salad dressings and fresh carrots.

The 17,900ft² facility, which houses several test kitchens and a sensory center, is currently staffed with 40 employees.

Product developers will use the advanced technologies at the center for their research on food and beverage ingredients and products.

Bolthouse Farms CEO Jeff Dunn said, "The Innovation Center is a fitting next step toward Inspiring the Fresh Revolution™ as it enables us to further enhance how healthier foods, beverages and snacks are developed and marketed."
