Core Tip: Malaysia tilapia producer Trapia Malaysia has been certified by the Aquaculture Stewardship Council.
Trapia Malaysia uses GenoMar Supreme Tilapia fingerlings from its onsite hatchery next to Lake Temenggor in the north peninsular of Malaysia. Each fingerling is categorized, traceable and verifiable throughout the value chain. The fish is then cage-raised in the lake and are sold as frozen fillets and loins to customers in North America, Europe, Asia and domestically.

The tilapia farm is EU approved and has held GlobalGAP certification since 2010. The processing plant holds BRC certification and chain of custody certification from both GlobalGAP and ASC.

“We are extremely satisfied with this achievement because it recognizes the efforts of our young organization to build a culture where strong environmental ethics, long term approaches, transparency and excellence impregnate the way we operate,” said Alejandro Tola Alvarez, chief technical officer. “It is particularly great to be certified for this standard as we believe the ASC philosophy coincides well with our approach to farming; using science and education to develop an activitu that works in harmony with the ecosystems whose services we depend on, manages supply chain externalities and supports rural livelihoods whilst producing wholesome food for the people.”
