Core Tip: UK - The World Seafood Congress has announced two new sponsors of the event, which will take place in Grimsby, UK later in 2015.

The event takes place from 5-9 September.

The sponsors announced are retailer Marks & Spencer, and owners of The Saucy Fish Co. brand, Icelandic Seachill.

The new sponsors aim to support sustainable fishing practice, underpinned by their on-going commitment to encourage consumers to eat more seafood.

As part of their support, both organisations have provided specialist speakers to the three day event.

On day one, Simon Smith, Managing Director at Icelandic Seachill & The Saucy Fish Co. will talk about bringing new consumers into the fish category.

Hannah MacIntyre, Fish and Aquaculture Manager at Marks & Spencer, will address delegates on day two, analysing the fishing trade from the perspective of a major retailer.

Commenting on the announcement, Ms MacIntyre said: “Marks & Spencer is dedicated to protecting marine life as demonstrated through our Forever Fish campaign.

"The World Seafood Congress is an important resource in helping us to continue with this effort, giving us a platform to share market insight and discuss issues like sustainability and skills with suppliers and experts from across the world.”

MrSmith added: “Grimsby is the heartland of the British fishing industry, and as a company with firm roots in the town, it’s exciting to have such a respected industry event on our doorstep.”

Dr Paul Williams, Chief Executive at Seafish, the industry authority hosting this year’s World Seafood Congress, said: “Retailers and suppliers play an integral role in the seafood supply chain, by fuelling growth and encouraging best practice.

“The support of such high profile brands is extremely valuable to the congress, as well as to the wider fishing industry, and we look forward to welcoming each business’ delegation to Grimsby in September.”

Marks & Spencer and Icelandic Seachill add to a number of high-profile companies already signed-up to support the biennial event.

Set to be held at the Grimsby Institute from 5 – 9 September, the Congress is a gathering of experts from across the global fishing industry, who come together to discuss key issues facing the fishing industry today.

The theme of this year’s congress will be ‘Upskilling for a Sustainable Future’ and the programme includes talks and workshops centred on sustainability, export and trade, led by experts and academics from across the world.
