Tata Coffee, a business owned by India-based Tata Group, is set to increase the processing capacity of instant coffee by nearly 30% to 8400 tons by April 2014, in order to cater to the growing demand from Russia and Western Africa.The company currently operates two instant coffee manufacturing facilities - one at Toopran near Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh and the other at Theni, Tamil Nadu.
Major countries importing coffee from the company include Japan, South East Asia, West Africa, Russia and CIS countries.
Tata Coffee finance executive director Deepak Kumar said that the company is expanding its instant coffee processing capacity and will process 8,300-8,400 tons per year from the existing 6,500 tons.
"The consumption of instant coffee in Russia is rising. The current consumption is about 70,000 tons per annum and it is rising. Another important thing is that there is an increased demand for quality coffee," Kumar added.
Tata Coffee produces over 10,000 tons of shade grown Arabica and Robusta coffee at its 19 estates in South India and exports green coffee to countries in Europe, Asia, West Asia and North America.
