Consumers with less than three hours of leisure time a day, dominate the ice cream market in France by holding over 67% share, according to a report by Canadean Food.
According to the report, "Consumer Trends in the Ice Cream Market in France", consumers with leisure time of one to three hours a day form 40.7%, while those with less than an hour of free time hold 26.5% stake in the market. Those having five to seven hours of time hold just over 1%.
Among the various wealth groups, the affluent and the middle income groups contribute the most with 44% and 36.3% respectively.
Consumers educated up to the upper secondary level form 27% of the market even as those with pre-primary level education hold the least at 1%.
People aged over 55 years hold over 37% among various age groups, while early young adults aged between 16 and 24 contribute the least at over 8%.
The share of female-male consumers is 51%-49%, while that of urban and rural population is 60%-40%.
Over 86% of the market is owned by brands as against private labels.
Indulgence has been the most influential trend with 68%.
Impulse ice creams hold the highest share of 39%, while take-home ice creams form 34% and artisanal ice creams 27% of the French market.
