Seafood from sustainable sources is gaining popularity. Chilean fish exports should therefore use sustainability labeling and certification to successfully access retail and foodservice units in the US and EU.

US consumer are gaining increasingly responsible attitudes to the environment, impacting their purchasing decisions.

The certification and an appropriate labeling regarding product traceability is increasingly influencing consumer preferences.

The Chilean Association for Exports (ProChile) is therefore reccomending that for Chilean fish products to gain full export potential in the US and EU markets, they need to have labels showing information for: place of origin, sustainable capture and processing and the use of biodegradable materials in packaging.
