Sirane: Ice-Mat Helps Maintain Condition of Live Seafood

Core Tip: A new addition to Sirane’s Sea-Fresh range helps maintain the freshness of live seafood during transportation – and increase its value when it goes to market.
Sirane’s new Ice-MaSiranets maintain a supply of fresh saltwater throughout the journey, enhancing the condition, presentation – and ultimately price – of live seafood.

Dri-Fresh Sea-Fresh Ice-Mats are soaked in saltwater and then frozen. Once frozen, they are laid over the crates containing live seafood - during the transportation process the mat will slowly release the water, helping maintain the seafood’s freshness.

Perfect for crustaceans, such as lobster and crab, the product remains chilled, and the saltwater’s staggered release means that the product remains in a premium condition.

Gillian Carter, Sirane’s sales representative for seafood packaging, said: “This new product has been very much driven by demand within the industry – there is a real need.

“It’s a very simple solution which can make a real difference to the condition of live seafood when it arrives at its destination - which can have a real knock-on effect on price.”

Custom sizes and a range of absorbency levels are available with this product.

Sirane is an innovative packaging design, development, manufacture and solutions company which specialises in areas including absorbency and ovenable/microwaveable products, compostable packaging, films, boards, absorbent pads, and much more.
