Rum Runner Press, a Texas-based company that specializes in bulk rum brokerage, rum formulations and turn-key private label solutions, is all set to represent Fairly Trade Organics' USDA-certified organic rums in the US from March 2013.
Located in Paraguay, South America, Fairly Traded Organics has been producing raw cane sugars, rums, molasses and alcohols since 1994. The products are 100% GMO-free and are certified organic under the USDA National Organics Program (NOP), Japan Agriculture Standard (JAS), EU 2092/91 and Bio Suisse (Switzerland) standards.
Rum Runner will initially represent the fair-trade, white and aged organic rums in bulk. Consumers can bottle the rums or use them as a base to prepare spiced rums or ready-to-drinks (RTDs).
Rum Runner Press president Luis Ayala said the beverage industry has been looking out for certified organic rum for quite some time now.
"Undoubtedly there has been an emphasis on reduced calories and on reduced carbs, but the coffee industry has taught us that retailers and consumers are also interested in organic and fair trade practices. This is where we come in with these rums," Ayala added.
