Core Tip: Clos Fourtet is set to purchase three wine estates in the commune of Saint-Emilion.
Clos Fourtet, a Bordeaux-based winery that produces Clos Fourtet wine from the Saint-Emilion appellation, is set to purchase three wine estates in the commune of Saint-Emilion.

The three properties to be purchased are 1.3ha Chateau Clos St Martin, 1ha Les Grands Murailles and 14ha Cote de Baleau. Though, the price of the transaction is not revealed, it is expected to be several million Euros per hectare, reported Decanter.com.

All the three vineyards are owned by Sophie Fourcade, who has been in this family wine business since 1998. Post transaction, Fourcade will continue to serve as director for all the three wine estates.

Chateau Clos Fourtet owner Mathieu Cuvelier was quoted by the website as saying that all the three brands has strong identities and the company wants to understand their terroir.

"Of course there is the possibility for changes in the future, but everything needs to be studied carefully," Cuvelier added.

The addition of Clos Fourtet will take Cuvelier family's total properties to 40ha in St Emilion. Apart from St Emilion properties, it also owns Chateau Poujeaux and 68ha property in Moulis en Medoc.
